Shut Up! Cartoons was a Smosh YouTube channel that featured original animated content. Created as part of Google's unsuccessful YouTube Original Channel Initiative, it amassed just over two million subscribers during its lifetime, making it one of the least-subscribed Smosh channels. The channel operated from April 30, 2012 to June 23, 2017.

History

The Shut Up! Cartoons teaser trailer featured clips from eleven different shows. Ian and Anthony later announced that there were eighteen planned series in total, each with ten episodes per season.

The channel was launched with three shows: Do's & Don'ts (airing on Mondays), Pubertina (airing on Wednesdays), and Zombies vs. Ninjas (airing on Fridays). Both Do's & Don'ts and Zombies vs. Ninjas were met with positive reception while Pubertina received the opposite.

Krogzilla, a show created by and starring Cory Edwards, launched to positive reception in May 2012. This was followed by Snowjacked, which saw mixed reviews. Both shows were the channel's first to release on Thursdays and Tuesdays, respectively.

Since each series was limited to ten episodes per season, Do's & Don'ts, Pubertina, and Zombies vs. Ninjas' first seasons concluded in July 2012. They were replaced by Nature Break, Weasel Town, and Oishi High School Battle. Response to Weasel Town was mixed, but Nature Break and Oishi High School Battle were both received positively.

Krogzilla and Snowjacked were respectively replaced by Samurai! Daycare and Politicats, both of which were met with positive reception.

The Monday, Wednesday, and Friday shows came to an end in September 2012. The show that replaced Nature Break was Planets, a reality show about the ten celestial bodies of the galaxy, which met positive response. However, the show replacing Weasel Town, Really Freaking Embarrassing, created by Peter Hannan, met very negative responses from the viewers. Its first trailer was removed from the website, stated as "shocking and disturbing content". A new trailer was added, with less disturbing scenes. Oishi Origins, a three-episode prequel to Oishi High School Battle, was also launched replacing the original Oishi High School Battle which met positive response.

The show replacing Samurai! Daycare in October 2012 was Icons of Teen, which features both fictional characters (such as Batman and Spock) and real celebrities (such as Oprah Winfrey) as teenagers. The show met mixed reviews. Also that week, Oishi Origins was replaced by Teleporting Fat Guy, which is based on a character from previous Smosh videos and explains how he became the Teleporting Fat Guy. The show met positive reviews. On November 20, Politicats was replaced by Sub:3, following a Speed Racer-like character that delivers pizza, met by mixed reviews.

On November 15, Do's & Don'ts and Krogzilla received IAWTV nominations for Best Animated Web Series. On November 28, Really Freaking Embarrassing was replaced by With Zombies created by Matt Clark (the creator of Planets). This was the end of Season 1.

February and March 2013 saw the second-season premieres of Do's & Don'ts, Pubertina, and Zombies vs. Ninjas. The former and latter were once again received positively, while Pubertina's second season received a mixed response. Following Pubertina's finale on April 17, 2013, the channel entered an unannounced period of inactivity. Uploads resumed on May 20 with the Planets Season 2 trailer.

Paper Cuts, a show re-creating movie trailers and scenes with paper, premiered in June 2013 to positive reception. Later that month, the Canadian stop-motion series Life's a Zoo premiered as Shut Up! Cartoons' first non-original show (all other series were created specifically for the channel). New episodes released on Sundays.

In July 2013, the live-action/animated Just Shut Up! premiered, which featured clips from previous Shut Up! Cartoons series intertwined with original live-action segments. This series was the first to release on Saturdays, but was met with mixed response questioning its premise.

In its final years, the channel was set back by dwindling audiences and lackluster reception on new series. By 2016, its only shows were Super Smosh and Smosh Babies. Super Smosh ran through the end of 2016, and the channel ceased operations after Smosh Babies' series finale.

Intros

The intro for a Shut Up! Cartoon is simple, it starts out like a normal Smosh video but with an animated arm (with Mickey Mouse-esque glove) spraying the paint onto the logo box while a line from the video plays. An anvil (with "Shut Up!" on it) crashes down on the Smosh logo box when the famous "Shut Up!" line plays and a character says "Cartoons". The openings are quotes in the episodes. Below is who said "Cartoons" in each opening.
