LyricsEdit

Smosh used the extended lyrics from the First Pokemon Movie.

I wanna be the very best
Like no one ever was
To catch them is my real test
To train them is my cause

I will travel 'cross the land
Searching far and wide
Each Pokemon, to understand
The power that's inside!

(Pokemon! Gotta catch em all!)
It's you and me
I know it's my destiny!
(Pokemon!)
Ooh, you're my best friend
In a world we must defend!

(Pokemon! Gotta catch em all!)
A heart so true
Our courage will pull us through!
You teach me, and I'll teach you
Pokemon!
Gotta catch em all! Gotta catch em all!

Yeah...

Ev'ry challenge along the way
With courage I will face
I will battle ev'ry day
To claim my rightful place!

Come with me, the time is right
There's no better team
Arm in arm, we'll win the fight
It's always been my dream!

(Pokemon! Gotta catch em all!)
It's you and me
I know it's my destiny!
(Pokemon!)
Ooh, you're my best friend
In a world we must defend!

(Pokemon! Gotta catch em all!)
A heart so true
Our courage will pull us through!
You teach me, and I'll teach you
(Pokemon!)
Gotta catch em all! Gotta catch em all!

Gotta catch em all

Gotta catch em all!

Gotta catch em all!

(Guitar solo)

(Pokemon! Gotta catch em all!)
It's you and me
I know it's my destiny!
Ooh, you're my best friend
In a world we must defend!(Pokemon! Gotta catch em all!)
A heart so true
Our courage will pull us through!
You teach me and I'll teach you
(Pokemon!)
Gotta catch em all! Gotta catch em all!

LegacyEdit

The video was viewed 24 million times, making it the most watched video on YouTube at that time. However, the Pokemon Company claimed that the video infringed on their copyright, and Smosh was forced to remove the video. This brought outrage from many fans, who are now working together to bring the original video back. To pay homage to it, five years later in 2010, Smosh published a music video called Pokemon Theme Song REVENGE which, more or less, described the story of the original video.

TriviaEdit

  • After Ian catches Pikachu, a shot of Anthony in SpongeBob SquarePants underwear is abruptly shown for a second. Anthony then wears the same shorts 7 years later in the 2012 video: STUCK IN A TOILET!
  • At one point in the video, Ian licks and puts a Jesus figurine in his mouth. Some viewers called it "blasphemy," but Ian said that they did because they thought Jesus was "a pretty cool dude." Ian remarked that he would be perfectly fine if the same thing happened to a figurine of him.
  • The Poke-Dex that lan used was actually a contest prize for whoever can make the best Pokemon video, and they won. With the prize being a Poke-Dex, they decided to use it in this video
  • After the first chorus, Anthony is seen pulling his eyes back, which many viewers thought was a racist stereotype of Japanese people. However, Ian and Anthony said that Anthony was trying to imitate Brock from the Pokemon TV show.
  • In the second chorus, Ian and Anthony sing using their belly buttons. This was a reference to a tribe in Africa whose language system is so primitive, they communicated using their belly buttons. Ian said that he thought that over half of the original video's views came from that one tribe.
  • At one point, Anthony sings to a bottle of Mountain Dew. He claimed he did this because he was thirsty.
    • Also, while Anthony was doing this, Ian was seen on the bed.
  • During the guitar solo, Ian sends out a Pokemon called "Anthonymon" (which is really just Anthony).
  • Anthony claimed that he walked on all fours for two days to train for the Anthonymon scene.
  • The video can be viewed on Newgrounds.
  • Interestingly, it is the only parody music video made by Smosh that was deleted due to copyright. Now it was brought back to YouTube by user Andii2000 and now has over 14,000,000 views, this was the original re-upload since 2005 and has the best quality.
  • In 2007, a commentary was made for this video. It can be found on Smosh.com and it is the first Smosh extra.
