Luke Skywalker is a character based on the Star Wars protagonist of the same name. He has been played by Ian Hecox, Anthony Padilla, Shayne Topp, and Damien Haas.

History[]

Luke Skywalker the main protagonist of the Original Trilogy of Star Wars. Portrayed by Mark Hamill, he appears in the original Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi (1983), as well as the Sequel Trilogy in The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017), and The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

The son of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padmé Amidala, Luke was born along with his twin sister Leia in 19 BBY. As a result of Padmé's death and Anakin's fall to the dark side of the Force, the Skywalker children were separated and sent into hiding, with Luke was raised by relatives on Tatooine. Longing for a life of adventure and purpose, Luke joined the Rebel Alliance and began learning the ways of the Force under the guidance of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. During the Battle of Yavin in 0 ABY, Luke, aided by Han Solo, saved the Alliance from doom by destroying the Empire's planet-killing superweapon the Death Star. He continued his training in the years after, determined to become a Jedi Knight like his father, and found a new mentor in Grand Master Yoda. Luke participated in the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, during which he confronted the Sith Lord Darth Vader, whom he learned prior was his father Anakin. With Luke's help, Anakin returned to the light side of the Force by destroying the Emperor at the cost of his own life, fulfilling his destiny as the Chosen One.

In canon, with the Sith's destruction and the subsequent capitulation of the Empire in 5 ABY, Luke traveled across the galaxy, searching for knowledge to aid him in rebuilding the Jedi Order. One of his apprentices was his nephew Ben Solo, who inherited the Skywalker bloodline's raw strength and potential. Ben's fall to the dark side like Vader and the destruction of his nascent Order drove Luke into exile on the distant world of Ahch-To to live out the rest of his days as a hermit. His solitude was interrupted in 34 ABY by Rey and Chewbacca, resulting in a chain of events that led Skywalker to play out one last role before passing away into the Force.

In Legends, after the Battle of Endor and the formation of the New Republic, Luke helped keep galactic peace while the Empire was slowly defeated. He temporarily fell to the dark side and became the apprentice of Palpatine, who returned in the form of several clone bodies, but was later redeemed and in 11 ABY, he founded the New Jedi Order. In the midst of this rebirth came numerous challenges for Luke and his apprentices, including the Black Fleet Crisis, the Almanian Uprising, and the lure of Waru. Meanwhile, after a long series of failed relationships, Luke married fellow Jedi Mara Jade in 19 ABY. Luke fought in the Yuuzhan Vong War (during which Mara gave birth to a son, Ben), the Dark Nest Crisis, the Swarm War, the Second Galactic Civil War, and helped the galaxy deal with the Lost Tribe of Sith and a malevolent dark side entity known as Abeloth. Eventually, Luke passed away, and became one with the Force.[1]

IF MOVIES WERE REAL 2[]

In a scene based on Luke and Vader's fateful duel on Cloud City, Vader leans in on Luke, who is on the ground with his hand cut off. Vader reveals himself to be Anakin Skywalker, Luke's father, which Luke vehemently refuses to believe. Just then, Maury Povich of the NBC tabloid talk show Maury arrives and announces that "the results are in" and confirms that Vader is indeed Luke's father, a fact that Vader celebrates but Luke reacts to rather negatively, tantrumming like a child and throwing vulgar insults at Vader.

Interestingly, during this load of emotion, Luke's right hand is back on his wrist.

DISNEY STAR WARS[]

After Disney obtained the Star Wars franchise as part of their acquisition of Lucasfilm and remade the entire Original Trilogy, Luke is reimagined as "even more kooky and fun", as are the rest of the characters. During the scene in which he looks out at the sunset on Tatooine, a snippet of a song he sings based on "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid:

I wanna be where the Jedis are
I wanna see, wanna see them killing

Later, Luke and Han Solo are running from stormtroopers in Mos Eisley and Han boards the Millennium Falcon, who is now a giant chicken. A confused Luke hesitates to join, but the Falcon screams at him to climb aboard. Luke complies, and he and Han "go on an adventure to rescue the beautiful Princess Leia". Later, Luke jumps into his X-Wing starfighter with C-3PO and R2-D2, who are now played by Chris Tucker and Nicolas Cage respectively. C-3PO expresses a strong lack of desire to go into space, which Luke only laughs at in glee. At some point during their escape from the Death Star, Leia gives Luke a kiss on the cheek. When C-3PO mentions that Luke is falling in with his sister, Luke and Han burst into laughter before Luke realizes what he is doing.

Luke and Vader's relationship is more wholesome, seen when they are going on a landspeeder ride together on Tatooine. This is even seen when, Vader is Force choking him, telekinetically tossing him into a wall and a pile of boxes, cutting off his hand, and telekinetically hitting his head with a pipe, Luke expresses love for his father.

When Luke, Leia, Han, R2-D2, and C-3PO are aboard a sail barge owned by Jabba the Hutt, C-3PO refuses to jump into the Sarlacc pit. Leia pushes the droid overboard, to the confusion of Luke and Han. Finally, when Jar Jar Binks is jokingly revealed to be reintroduced, Luke, Leia, and Han gang up on and beat up the Gungan.

MOVIE REBOOTS SUCK[]

I-Nerd and A-Nerd are advertised the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII, which stars Panic! at the Disco band member Brendon Urie as Luke Skywalker, who sings a Star Wars-ized "I Write Sings Not Tragedies":

I chimed in, "Haven't you Wookiees ever heard of
Using the goddamn Force, no!"

This causes A-Nerd to complain about how Luke never sang in any of the Star Wars films, games, comics, or even in the erotic fan fiction.

EVERY JEDI EVER[]

Luke and Vader are in the middle of a lightsaber duel (apparently aboard the Death Star rather than in Cloud City). Luke angrily shouts to Vader that the Sith Lord killed his father, but Vader reveals that he is Luke's father. Luke is initially shocked, but Vader tries to correct himself by changing his revelation to him being pregnant and Luke being the father, which only confuses Luke. Vader tries to correct himself again by revealing that Luke is pregnant and Vader is the baby, but Luke is only more confused.

Luke and Mara Jade see each other on the sidewalk and wave to each other, oblivious to the destruction they are telekinetically causing.

Having trouble tying his shoe, the Force ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi suggests he use the Force. Luke denies that he needs help, and asks Obi-Wan to stop when he suggests making a bunny ear.

Obi-Wan peeks over the bathroom stall and tells Luke to use the Force. A surprised Luke screams at his deceased Master to get out.

Luke is having a nice time while at home with a girl, but Obi-Wan appears again to tell Luke to use the Force. Luke, however, wants to take it slow, but the girl has other plans as she strips Luke naked in a single telekinetic flick of her hand. Luke covers his nipples in shock as Ben remarks that the Force is strong with the girl.

WHAT IF STAR WARS...[]

If Star Wars was filmed in Boston, Massachusetts, Luke welcomes Leia to "Southie" (South Boston). Leia warns Luke not to turn to the dark side, which Luke acts slightly offended by and promises not to since the light side is "wicked as f*ck".

EVERY STAR WARS FAN EVER[]

A crazed Star Wars fan, cosplaying as Luke, has finished building an actual lightsaber from scratch, using quartz crystal, iodine, and gasoline. When he activates it, however, it explodes and destroys the entire building, presumably killing the fan.

WHAT IF SMOKING RUINED ICONIC MOVIE MOMENTS...[]

Vader is about to reveal to Luke that he is his father, but he keeps getting interrupted by his own coughing fits. Luke shuffles over to the platform to remove Vader's helmet to help him, unintentionally causing Vader to die. Luke is stunned for a couple seconds before asking Vader if he is alright.

If Movies Were Real 6[]

In the segment based on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the Force ghost of Luke congratulates Rey for bringing balance to the Force once more. However, Walt Disney, dressed in black robes, threateningly tells Luke and Rey that the saga is over when he says it's over, and that Star Wars will continue to make films until it runs dry.
